Empowering MSMEs for a Digital World

Empowering MSMEs for a Digital World.

In a continued push to improve the competitiveness of Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs), the Department of Commerce will host two targeted training sessions under its Digital Enhancement Program. These capacity-building sessions—focused on E-Commerce Operations, and Digital Marketing and Online Sales—are designed to equip local businesses with practical tools to thrive in an increasingly digital trading environment.

As global markets evolve, the ability to operate effectively online is essential. These training sessions form part of the Government’s broader efforts to improve the ease of doing business by supporting enterprise resilience whilst enabling MSMEs to expand their market reach and adopt avenues for convenient customer engagement.

The E-Commerce Operations training will guide participants through the fundamentals of planning, launching and managing an online business. Topics will include:

  • E-commerce models and platform selection;
  • Order management, inventory, and fulfillment;
  • Payment systems, fees, and cash flow; and
  • Customer experience and launch readiness.

Participants will also complete a basic E-Commerce Operational Plan for their businesses.

Complementing this, the Digital Marketing and Online Sales training will concentrate on strategies to drive visibility and revenue in the digital space. MSMEs will gain an introduction to digital marketing and social commerce, and learn:

  • Creation and optimization of online storefronts;
  • Product listing and pricing strategies;
  • Social media marketing (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Business); and
  • Basic online promotion strategies.

Trainees are expected to develop a simple digital marketing plan and promotional content.

Together, these training sessions provide a foundation for MSMEs seeking to modernize their operations and capitalize on digital opportunities. They are particularly timely as businesses navigate shifting consumer behaviors. The Digital Enhancement Program reflects a strategic approach to economic development which prioritizes adaptation, innovation, inclusivity, productivity and sustainable growth.
